RLWRLD raises 60B won for real-shot robot data
FuturePlay founder Ryu Jung-hee founded RLWRLD in 2024, collecting real workplace data for robot models; seed rounds total 60B won.
RLWRLD (리얼월드)
What the business is
Builds robot foundation models (RFM): with its own RLDX model and 4D+ motion-capture data system, it captures the actions of skilled workers on manufacturing, logistics, hotel, and other sites as training data, allowing humanoid robots from different manufacturers to share one 'brain'.
Starting capital:Seed rounds total approximately 60 billion won (about 41 million USD): Seed 1 approximately 21 billion won (April 2025, led by Hashed), Seed 2 approximately 26 million USD (February 2026)
How it started
In 2024, FuturePlay founder Ryu Jung-hee (류중희) founded RLWRLD, focusing on physical AI and robot foundation models; it was formally unveiled after he stepped down as FuturePlay representative in April 2025. From the beginning, the company had a strategic partnership with South Korea's Rainbow Robotics (彩虹机器人) to jointly develop next-generation reference humanoid robots, and established a cross-embodiment architecture: one model controls humanoid robots from different manufacturers, so customers are not locked into a single hardware.
What happened
In April 2025, it completed Seed 1 financing of approximately 21 billion won, led by Hashed, with participation by CVCs from Japanese and Korean companies including Mirae Asset Venture Investment (未来资产风险投资), Global Brain, PKSHA Technology Capital, LG Electronics (LG电子), SK Telecom (SK电信), DRB Dongil (DRB东一), KDDI, ANA Holdings (ANA控股), Mitsui Chemicals (三井化学), and Shimadzu (岛津制作所). In February 2026, it completed Seed 2 financing of approximately 26 million USD, with participation by Headline Asia and Z Ventures, and follow-on investment from industrial capital including CJ Logistics (CJ物流), Kakao Investment (Kakao投资), Lotte Ventures (乐天风投), and Hanwha Asset Management (韩华资产运用), bringing the total to approximately 60 billion won. A May 2026 report by 36Kr (36氪) said the company uses native work videos of frontline employees as core data, greatly improving task stability and reducing manual remote intervention; the official plan is to release the robot foundation model in the first half of 2026 and begin expanding into the North American market.
How it ended up
In July 2026, according to a report by South Korean media outlet thebell, RLWRLD began pursuing a Series A round with a scale clearly exceeding the cumulative seed total of 60 billion won, with funds directed to talent, AI computing, and on-site data collection. As of September 1, 2026, the Series A was still underway.
Background
RLWRLD (리얼월드) is a robot foundation model company founded in 2024 by Ryu Jung-hee, founder of FuturePlay; unveiled April 2025. It builds only the 'brain': develops RLDX model and 4D+ motion-capture system, collecting frontline employee operations in manufacturing, logistics, hotels, stores, airline logistics as training data, letting different humanoid robots share one model.
April 2025: Seed 1 ~21B won led by Hashed, with Mirae Asset, Global Brain, PKSHA, LG Electronics, SK Telecom, KDDI, ANA, Mitsui Chemicals, Shimadzu. Feb 2026: Seed 2 ~$26M with Headline Asia, Z Ventures, CJ Logistics, Kakao Investment, Lotte Ventures; cumulative ~60B won (~$41M).
Unlike mainstream web video pretraining, all data comes from real workplace filming: employees wear devices to record standard actions, model learns complete workflows, yielding higher stability and less remote intervention. Plans to release model H1 2026, enter North America; July 2026 launched Series A exceeding seed.
What has to be true
- Founder brings ecosystem: FuturePlay founder pivoted to RFM, securing Japanese and Korean industrial capital, large-enterprise scenarios, and hardware cooperation with Rainbow Robotics.
- Data route opposite to mainstream: no web video pretraining, exclusively real job data, betting grounded training yields stable deployments customers pay for.
- Cross-embodiment architecture: one foundation model controls humanoid robots from different manufacturers, avoiding hardware lock-in.
- Risks clear: model unreleased, Series A unclosed; cash burn and commercialization speed are biggest variables.
What can be applied
Betting on expensive but authentic data can win: RLWRLD trades real workplace videos for deployment stability, attracting industrial capital that provides money and scenarios.
Aftermath
As of Sept 2026, RLWRLD is early-stage: cumulative seed ~60B won (~$41M). In July 2026, it pursued a Series A larger than seed. Plans to release foundation model in H1 2026, pilot with CJ Logistics and Lotte in logistics, manufacturing, hotels, and expand to North America. R&D bases in US, Japan, South Korea.
