Robopoet (珞博智能)
What the business is
Robopoet designs and sells AI companion hardware: its plush keychain pet Fuzozo (芙崽) reads emotions, chats, remembers its owner, and evolves a unique personality, priced from ¥399 in China and ¥19,800 in Japan.
Starting capital:Angel rounds in 2025 — tens of millions RMB announced Jun 2025 with GSR Ventures (金沙江创投) among the leads, then a Sequoia China-led top-up in Sep 2025 — plus a RMB 100M+-scale Pre-A closed in early 2026 and announced 2026-07-13, co-led by Huaying Capital and Fibocom with Tuya following and Sequoia China/GSR adding.
How it started
Founder Sun Zhaozhi spent a decade in car and robot design — interior-design lead at XPeng Auto, product lead at XPeng Robotics (Pengxing) and Didi's car project — and founded Robopoet in Shanghai in Jan 2024 on the bet that general-purpose robots were still years from commercialization while LLMs already made a close, emotional hardware companion feasible.
What happened
Fuzozo debuted at MWC Barcelona in Mar 2025 and went on sale in China in Jul 2025 at ¥399; angel funding followed in 2025 (GSR-led group announced Jun 2025, Sequoia China-led top-up Sep 2025). A Huawei co-designed variant 'Hanhan' (憨憨) sold out at launch in Nov 2025 and took ~12,000 pre-orders in Dec. At CES in Jan 2026 Robopoet announced a Tuya partnership for global connectivity; on 2026-05-29 it opened Japan with a Makuake campaign that raised ¥20M in 8 hours and ¥35M+ in 72 hours, while May 2026 China GMV reached ¥20M+ (+18x YoY). The ~¥100M Pre-A led by Huaying Capital and Fibocom was announced on 2026-07-13.
How it ended up
Still scaling: ~300k Fuzozo units sold in China by Jun 2026, a full Japan launch scheduled for Aug 2026 at ¥19,800 through DTC, Amazon and retail chains LOFT/Hands, the US next; the company's stated 2026 target is 1M units.
Background
Robopoet (珞博智能), a Shanghai startup founded in Jan 2024, sells Fuzozo (芙崽), a palm-sized plush keychain AI pet. Instead of competing on speech quality or spec sheets, the product is built around 'raising': each unit perceives tone and touch, records long-term memories of its owner through an EchoChain memory system, and grows a distinct personality through a GrowMe development system, all wrapped in a five-element 'Furry Planet' world view.
Founder Sun Zhaozhi came from XPeng Auto and XPeng Robotics, and his premise was that humanoid robots were still too far from mass commercialization while AI models were already good enough to make an emotionally sticky companion. Fuzozo launched in China in Jul 2025 at ¥399, sold ~300k units domestically by Jun 2026, and posted ¥20M+ May 2026 GMV (+18x YoY) with No.1 placement on Tmall's AI-toy store ranking. A Huawei co-designed 'Hanhan' variant sold out in Nov 2025 and drew ~12,000 pre-orders the next month.
Japan was the first overseas test: on 2026-05-29 Fuzozo opened on Makuake and raised ¥20M in its first eight hours and over ¥35M in 72 hours, topping the platform's daily ranking, with a ¥19,800 launch price positioned far below local rivals. Capital followed the curve — angel rounds in 2025 backed by GSR Ventures and Sequoia China, then a RMB 100M+-scale Pre-A announced 2026-07-13, co-led by Huaying Capital and Fibocom with Tuya and the earlier investors adding.
As of mid-Jul 2026 the company was scaling: roughly 300k cumulative domestic sales, an Aug 2026 Japan market launch planned through DTC, Amazon and LOFT/Hands retail, offline stores opening in China, and a stated 2026 goal of 1M units to reach a data flywheel for its next generation of AI pet products.
What has to be true
- Sun Zhaozhi's car and robot background let the team design the emotional interaction loop (eyes, touch, growth stages) rather than treat the product as an LLM in a shell.
- Long memory plus evolving personality creates attachment and switching costs, attacking the industry's core failure of ~40% return rates when novelty fades after a week.
- Launching through Makuake gave a low-cost, measurable test of Japan demand before committing to retail, inventory and localization spend.
- Positioning against local Japanese rivals' slow LLM adoption and 3-10x higher prices turned China's AI-model and supply-chain lead into a pricing and feature advantage.
What can be applied
When a category fixates on chat features, attachment is the moat: persistent memory and an evolving personality create the emotional switching cost that LLM-plus-shell clones cannot copy.
Aftermath
As of 14 Jul 2026, Robopoet's record rests on ~300k Fuzozo units sold in China since Jul 2025, May 2026 GMV of ¥20M+, the Huawei co-branded 'Hanhan' variant, and a Makuake campaign raising ¥35M+ in 72 hours in Japan. The Pre-A announced that day (Huaying Capital and Fibocom co-lead; Tuya, Sequoia China and GSR adding) funds R&D, line expansion and overseas markets; Japan's full launch was slated for Aug 2026 at ¥19,800 via DTC, Amazon and LOFT/Hands, with the US next. The 2026 goal is 1M units to feed the data flywheel behind its next AI-pet products.
