What the business is
Swiggy is an Indian food delivery and quick commerce platform.
How it started
Launched in 2022, Minis let local stores and D2C brands open online shops without building a website or app, on a zero-commission model. Sellers ranged from home bakers and handmade-gift makers to home cooks, plus creators offering consultations, professional services and webinars.
What happened
Swiggy featured Minis on its app for a while, but had removed the segment more than a year before the shutdown. The company kept diversifying elsewhere: Pyng for professional services, Genie hyperlocal delivery, Snacc rapid food delivery and Crew, a travel concierge. In May 2025 it suspended Genie in several cities, and competition intensified in its core businesses.
How it ended up
Swiggy told sellers Minis services would be discontinued from August 10, 2025. Moneycontrol first reported the shutdown on Wednesday; ET confirmed it with people aware of the matter. Swiggy did not reply to ET's queries at the time of publication.
What has to be true
Minis had already been demoted — removed from the main app more than a year before the shutdown was reported.
Zero commission meant no direct revenue; the bet depended on strategic value that was hard to defend once the core business came under attack.
It was one of many diversifications — Pyng, Genie, Snacc, Crew — and Swiggy had already suspended Genie in several cities in May 2025.
Swiggy did not respond to press queries about the shutdown, consistent with a quiet wind-down rather than a strategic announcement.
What can be applied
Side bets get evaluated against core pressure, not their own promise: a zero-commission product with no direct revenue is the first thing cut when the core business needs every rupee.
Aftermath
As of July 2, 2025, sellers were told Minis services would end on August 10. Moneycontrol broke the news first; ET confirmed with people aware of the matter. Swiggy's other side bets — Pyng, Snacc, Crew, Genie — continued to be evaluated separately, with Genie suspended in several cities since May.
