What the business is
Tebi is an Amsterdam fintech giving restaurants, bars and other hospitality businesses one subscription platform for payments, reservations, inventory and operations.
Starting capital
€30 million led by CapitalG with Index Ventures participating, eight months after a €20 million Series A led by Index — about €56 million (roughly $64 million) total.
How it started
Arnout Schuijff co-founded Adyen, stayed CTO after its 2018 IPO made him a billionaire on paper, and stepped down in 2021 — not from frustration, but because lockdown coding on his bar's VAT and reporting hassles grabbed him: streaming made instant transaction updates possible. Bar owner Mazdak Nasori confirmed the need and became one of five co-founders.
What happened
Schuijff told Adyen CEO Pieter van der Does he was leaving to build Tebi full-time, then balanced a tech-heavy founding team: ex-Adyen EVP Rob Vonk as CTO, ex-Notion strategy head Aki Tas as COO, ex-Wolt COO Patrick Studener as CCO. Hyperlocal deployment across the Netherlands preceded UK expansion plans, headcount doubling by year-end, AI onboarding that pulls menus and branding automatically, and a longer-term vision of an AI platform that helps merchants run their businesses.
What has to be true
CapitalG's thesis — European SMBs underserved by bank-dominated payments, like the US before software-embedded payments cut bank share below 30% — matched Tebi's wedge exactly.
The founder had built the accounting layer twice before (Bibit, Adyen); Tebi is the third time, aimed at the smallest merchants.
Hospitality's stack is fragmented across POS, reservations and inventory systems — an all-in-one consolidator has a natural cross-sell path.
Alphabet's ecosystem touches (Android, Gemini, Google Cloud, Maps) gave CapitalG an edge in a round Tebi wasn't seeking.
What can be applied
Serial founders' second acts work best when they shrink the customer: the Adyen playbook pointed at enterprises, so the next payments platform started with one bar.
Aftermath
As of the 10 June 2025 report, Tebi planned to enter the UK next, double headcount by the end of 2025, expand across Europe in coming years, and build out its AI features toward the broader business-running platform vision.
