Tines' governance bet: security-automation unicorn tops PH with AI-native 3B
Dublin workflow-automation firm for security teams hit $1.125B, then topped Product Hunt with Tines 3B, its environment for running and governing AI agents.
Tines
What the business is
Tines sells no-code workflow-automation software that security and IT teams use to connect systems and automate multi-step processes; Tines 3B extends that to building, running and governing AI agents and AI-generated workflows.
Starting capital:Bootstrapped until a $4.1M Series A led by Blossom Capital in October 2019; lifetime funding reached $272M by the $125M Series C (February 2025) that valued Tines at $1.125B.
How it started
Eoin Hinchy, an ex-eBay, PayPal and DocuSign security engineer, founded Tines in Dublin in February 2018 with former colleague Thomas Kinsella. At DocuSign he watched talented incident-response engineers repeat the same manual tasks because no platform existed to automate them, so he set out to build one.
What happened
Tines raised a $4.1M Series A in October 2019 and began expanding beyond security. After a reported ~$50M round at roughly $600M, it closed a $125M Series C in February 2025 led by Goldman Sachs Alternatives with SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and CrowdStrike Falcon Fund, valuing it at $1.125B. AI features it shipped in 2024 saw 302% growth in adoption, and by July 2026 it reported 124% net revenue retention, a tripled enterprise customer base year over year, and more than 1.5B automated actions a week.
How it ended up
On 2026-07-28 Tines launched 3B, a rebuilt AI-native platform for building, running and governing enterprise workflows, applications and agents, explicitly aimed at the "wild code" employees generate with AI. Its Product Hunt launch on 2026-08-11 finished #1 Product of the Day with 405 upvotes, and the original Tines Stories platform continues alongside 3B for core workflows.
Background
Tines was founded in Dublin in February 2018 by Eoin Hinchy, an ex-eBay, PayPal and DocuSign security engineer, with former colleague Thomas Kinsella. At DocuSign, Hinchy saw talented incident-response engineers repeating the same manual tasks with no platform to automate them, so Tines started as a no-code automation tool for security teams: six generic "agent" building blocks that talk to any system with an API, configured into workflows for jobs like phishing triage.
The bet paid off through rounds from Blossom Capital ($4.1M Series A, October 2019) to a reported $50M round at roughly $600M, then a $125M Series C in February 2025 led by Goldman Sachs Alternatives with SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and CrowdStrike Falcon Fund that valued Tines at $1.125B and brought lifetime funding to $272M. By July 2026 Tines reported 1.5B+ automated actions a week, 124% net revenue retention, 302% growth in adoption of its 2024 AI features, and customers including Coinbase, SAP, Experian, Reddit, Notion and Mars.
The next bet is governance. On 2026-07-28 Tines launched 3B, a rebuilt, AI-native environment for building, running and governing workflows, applications and agents, aimed at the "wild code" employees generate with AI outside formal IT processes; each workflow step runs in an isolated environment that is then removed, with credentials and logging controlled centrally. Tines 3B's Product Hunt launch on 2026-08-11 finished #1 Product of the Day with 405 upvotes, and Tines Stories continues alongside 3B for customers running core workflows.
What has to be true
- Differentiation: Tines refused the pre-built-integration model rivals Phantom and Demisto used, betting six generic API-connecting blocks would cover any workflow security teams needed.
- Category expansion: it started with security automation but designed the platform to treat security tools, HR systems and CRMs the same way, opening enterprise automation beyond the SOC.
- Reaction to AI: as employees generated software faster than IT could oversee it, Tines rebuilt 3B around governance — isolation, credentials, logging — instead of layering AI onto Tines Stories.
- Market proof: >1.5B automated actions per week and 124% net revenue retention show customers kept expanding usage, not just buying seats.
What can be applied
Tines won by serving the analyst: six no-code building blocks carried it to $1.125B, then it sold governance of AI 'wild code' instead of bolting AI onto the old tool.
Aftermath
As of 2026-09-02 Tines is scaling as a ~$1.125B, $272M-funded company with an enterprise customer base it says tripled year over year, including Coinbase, SAP, Experian, Reddit, Notion and Mars. The August 2026 Product Hunt #1 launch of Tines 3B, with 405 upvotes, is a marketing milestone rather than the company's core distribution channel: its platform continues to run 1.5B+ automated actions weekly, with Tines Stories maintained for customers running core workflows while 3B targets teams that need to build, run and govern AI agents in one auditable environment.
