What the business is
Trev Mobility runs a premium chauffeur-driven electric-car service with its own fleet, employed drivers and premium cars and SUVs.
The bet
Premium customers will pay for chauffeur-driven electric cars with employed, monitored drivers — a niche conventional taxis serve, not mass-market ride-hailing.
Starting capital
$2 million being raised, about $1 million of it 'almost confirmed' per Gupta, on top of ₹3.5 crore raised from customers.
How it started
Founder Naveen Gupta started Trev with two vehicles as an owned chauffeur service rather than an aggregation platform, running premium EVs such as MG and BYD models, with about 90% of the fleet leased largely through financial leases and Trev responsible for maintenance.
What happened
Trev raised ₹3.5 crore from its own customers, including CXOs and frequent users, and grew the fleet from about 20 vehicles to 105. AI-enabled cameras monitor drivers for fatigue, aggressive driving, smoking and seatbelt violations; drivers are salaried employees with incentives and insurance benefits to improve retention. Earlier in October 2026 it hired Shoffr COO Ayush Agrawal as co-founder and COO as it prepares entries into Bengaluru and Mumbai through its own operations rather than franchises.
What has to be true
BluSmart's shutdown left the all-electric ride-hailing field to sub-scale operators, most present in only one or two cities.
Premium riders pay for reliability and in-car experience, which an owned operation with salaried drivers controls better than aggregation.
Fixed salaries, incentives and insurance target driver retention, which service quality depends on.
Leasing 90% of the fleet keeps capital intensity manageable while the company scales toward 2,500 vehicles.
What can be applied
When a market leader collapses, the opening is not necessarily its exact position: a costlier, narrower segment with defensible service can scale where mass-market copycats stay sub-scale.
Aftermath
As of October 6, 2026, Trev had 105 vehicles and a stated path to 300 by the end of FY27 and 2,500 by 2031, was raising $2 million with about half almost confirmed, and was evaluating Maruti Suzuki's upcoming e Vitara as the electric passenger market expands. Mahindra vehicles were not available for commercial use, per Gupta.
