Nick van Eck, Drake Evans (a former MakerDAO engineer) and Joe McGrady founded Agora in 2023, betting the next wave of stablecoin growth would be institutional and compliance-driven. They raised a $12M Dragonfly-led seed in April 2024 to build AUSD and the white-label issuance platform.

AUSD deployed on Ethereum, Avalanche, Solana and Sui during 2024, with reserves managed by State Street and VanEck and Copper MPC custody technology. In July 2025, as Congress cleared the GENIUS Act creating the first US federal stablecoin regime, Agora closed a $50M Series A led by Paradigm and pursued money-transmitter licences across US states to enter the market the law opens.

The bet is early but positioned: the GENIUS Act was signed into law on 18 July 2025, and Agora is live multi-chain with $62M raised — yet AUSD's market cap remained under $200M, a fraction of USDC's, so the platform's real test is whether enterprises issue branded stablecoins on top of it.
