Apollo Atomics

Apollo Atomics

Advanced pressurized water reactor (PWR) startup redesigning the steam generator, turning traditionally custom-built nuclear plants into compact reactors that can be factory-produced, trucked, and deployed within two years, for data centers and industrial users.

31M seed round (oversubscribed, led by FCVC; TechCrunch reporting basis: $26M including $5M debt)

起因

Apollo Atomics was founded by Assil Halimi (MIT nuclear engineering PhD with reactor operating experience) and Drew Walker (hard-tech entrepreneur, former White House official), based on more than 15 years of MIT research. Their judgment: funding for the nuclear revival is flowing to new reactor designs, but according to current projections those reactors still cannot compete with natural gas in the short term—the problem is not the core, but the steam generator that converts heat into electricity, which follows coal- and gas-fired power plant designs and does not fully exploit the high energy density of nuclear fuel.

经过

Apollo's compact steam system routes the reactor coolant and water circuits through a metal block filled with needle-like fine channels. The heat-exchange efficiency is high enough that the generator can be factory-produced at about the size of a person, making the whole reactor about 40 times smaller than conventional designs. In August 2026, it announced the completion of an oversubscribed $31 million seed round led by FCVC, with participation from Y Combinator (2026 Spring batch), Telesoft Partners, Robinhood Ventures, Nucleation Capital, Pelion VC, Duke Capital Partners, and others; individual investors include Paul Graham. The funds are for the A-1 demonstration facility, long-term reliability testing, manufacturing vertical integration, and NRC regulatory advancement. The company says it has signed more than 20 gigawatts of letters of intent and has submitted a regulatory engagement plan to the NRC.

结果

Still running: as of August 20, 2026, Apollo completed the seed round, built a 40-kilowatt reactor system demonstrator at MIT, plans A-10/A-50/A-300 models, and targets commercial deployment of a demonstration reactor in 2028.
