起因

CEO Ryo Itai, a Honda R&D engineer on robots and electric mobility, pitched UMIAILE through Honda's IGNITION new-business program. He tested hand-held scale models on the Arakawa river for about a year, first envisioning electric surfboards and then fishery support, until conversations with earthquake researchers reoriented the business toward ocean observation. UMIAILE was founded in January 2025 with co-founders Tokio Unno (CTO) and Ryohei Nakajima (CSO/COO).

经过

The team built UMIAILE ASV prototypes and ran field demonstrations with academic and public-sector partners. In October 2025 it announced a total ¥1.575 billion seed round — Incubate Fund leading, UntroD Capital Japan and Honda participating in the equity, plus a Mizuho Bank debt facility — earmarked for marine robotics technology, field demonstration expansion, prototype development toward mass production, and hiring.

结果

Still in development: UMIAILE is using the seed round to move from prototypes toward mass production, targeting durability in harsh offshore conditions, annual production of thousands of ASVs, and swarm operations that gather ocean data in real time.
