Hung Bui, a former DeepMind research scientist, founded VinAI in 2019 in Hanoi with backing from Vingroup, betting that Vietnam could host fundamental AI research rather than just consume models built elsewhere.

VinAI grew to roughly 200 employees across Hanoi, the US and Australia (per Bui's 2023 Forbes interview), shipping AI-powered automotive products while also publishing generative-AI research. In late November 2024 Vingroup split the company in two — VinAI kept the automotive work, and the generative-AI team became MovianAI, with Vingroup holding 65%.
结果
On 1 April 2025 Qualcomm announced it had acquired MovianAI for an undisclosed amount; Bui joined Qualcomm as part of the deal. It was Qualcomm's second AI acquisition of 2025 after Edge Impulse, and Vingroup had already sold VinBrain to Nvidia in December 2024.
