Story TV made Eloelo India's top short-drama app, ARR from $23M to $230M

Eloelo's micro-drama app Story TV became India's #1 short-drama app and drove group ARR from $23M to $230M in seven months.

What the business is

Vertical micro-drama OTT app (Story TV) plus live social app Eloelo, learning app Master and AI companion Connecto.

Starting capital$50M+ raised since 2020 from WaterBridge, Lumikai, Gameskraft, Kalaari and others

How it started

Saurabh Pandey (ex-Flipkart, Citi, L'Oréal) founded Eloelo in Bengaluru in 2020 as a live social app. The group raised $50M+ but was near zero ARR as of April 2024. In July 2025 it launched Story TV as an early bet on India's micro-drama format.

What happened

Story TV grew explosively: a library of 1,000+ titles across romance, thriller, action and family drama, and group ARR went from $23M (June 2025) to $230M (Jan 2026) — 10x in seven months — with about 80% of revenue from Story TV. The group turned cash-flow positive in October 2025. In Q2 2026 Story TV was India's #1 short-drama app and the only one in the country's top-10 downloads, with a record MAU in June, and it posted 50%+ quarter-on-quarter revenue growth.

How it ended up

Still scaling as of 2026-09-02: raising $50M+ via Avendus, partnering with Applause (Aditya Birla Group), Balaji and Zee, and committing to 1,000 original South Indian microdramas by March 2027.

Background

Eloelo is a Bengaluru entertainment startup founded in 2020 by Saurabh Pandey, an ex-Flipkart, Citi and L'Oréal executive. After four years of live-social and learning experiments with $50M+ from WaterBridge, Lumikai, Gameskraft and Kalaari, its ARR was still near zero in April 2024. The group's real bet came in July 2025: launch Story TV, a vertical micro-drama app, into India's emerging short-drama wave.

The bet paid off unusually fast. Story TV amassed 1,000+ titles in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, and group ARR jumped from $23M in June 2025 to $230M in January 2026 — a 10x in seven months — with about 80% coming from Story TV. The engine was economics: AI workflows cut production costs by roughly 75%, enabling 90%+ gross margins. By Q2 2026 Sensor Tower ranked Story TV India's #1 short-drama app and #3 most-downloaded non-gaming app, the only short-drama platform in the country's top 10, as cumulative short-drama downloads passed 800 million.

The company frames entertainment's shift to micro-dramas as a 'T20 cricket/quick commerce moment'. It is now raising $50M+ through Avendus, has exclusive production partnerships with Applause (Aditya Birla Group), Balaji and Zee, and plans 1,000 original South Indian microdramas by March 2027 — while competitors Kuku TV, Pocket TV, DashReels, QuickTV and JioHotstar's Tadka crowd the same market.

What has to be true

  • Micro-dramas rode the same mobile habit as Reels — vertical, snackable, emotional — but with a subscription that monetizes attention directly.
  • AI-driven production economics (75% cost cuts, 90%+ gross margins) made scale profitable instead of a cash-burn race.
  • Early entry in July 2025 let Story TV build a 1,000-title library before JioHotstar and Pocket FM pushed in.
  • Free-to-watch verticals plus ₹599/quarter subscription tapped India's willingness to pay for entertainment once engaged.

What can be applied

In a format boom, the winner is the one who makes production absurdly cheap — AI workflows gave Story TV ~75% lower costs, 90%+ gross margins and 10x ARR in seven months.

Aftermath

As of 2026-09-02 Eloelo is scaling: Story TV leads India's short-drama category and the group targets $273M ARR by March 2026, with ~80% from Story TV. It is raising $50M+ via Avendus, expanding into South Indian originals, and facing fast-growing competition as the Indian micro-drama market is projected to grow from $300M (2025) to $1.5B (2026) per Lumikai.
