What the business is
Italian payroll and HR platform combining technology with authorised Payroll Advisors, handling contracts, hiring and expense reports
The bet
Italy's service-heavy payroll market, worth about EUR 4B, can be taken over by software plus authorised Payroll Advisors, with AI automating more over time
Starting capital
EUR 12 million seed, bringing total funding to EUR 16.7 million
How it started
Founders Marco Ogliengo and Francesco Scalambrino started Jet HR to remove the bureaucracy around payroll, HR and running a company in Italy. It offers a technology platform paired with expert, authorised Payroll Advisors, and launched about a year before its seed round.
What happened
On 24 September 2024 it announced a EUR 12M seed, bringing total funding to EUR 16.7M, led by Picus Capital with Exor Ventures, Italian Founders Fund and 2100 Ventures, plus angels including Diego Piacentini, Tony Jamous and Felix Blossier. It said it had 300+ clients after 12 months, including HelloFresh and Octopus Energy, and 70 employees.
How it ended up
The funds were to grow the team, mostly in R&D, and add contractor management so companies can pay contractors alongside employees. The client count and satisfaction claims came from the company.
What has to be true
Italian payroll rules are complex and the market relies on service-heavy consultants
Combining software with authorised Payroll Advisors let it take on the legal work while automating the rest
300+ clients in 12 months gave investors early commercial traction, according to Picus
Picus had backed several payroll and HR companies that became unicorns, so it understood the category
What can be applied
Where regulation and consultants dominate, a company that keeps human experts in the loop and layers software over them can show traction in a year, which is what drew a payroll-specialist investor.
Aftermath
As of 2024-09-24, Jet HR had 70 employees, over 300 client companies by its own count, EUR 16.7M in total funding, and planned contractor management and heavier R&D spending.
