NeoWa Robotics bets embodied traversal AI wins the last-500-meter delivery

Ex-Baidu autonomous-driving head Yang Ruigang's Shanghai startup raises RMB 50M angel two months after seed.

The betThat delivery's final 500 meters — campuses, parks, buildings — is the beachhead for embodied AI, and a map-free world model spanning robot bodies will win it.Building

What the business is

NeoWa Robotics (纽娲机器人, Shanghai, founded February 2026) builds the World Traversal Model, embodied-traversal intelligence for last-500-meter delivery, plus modular robots spanning humanoid, quadruped and wheeled forms; its first product is an embodied-intelligence delivery robot, not a conventional cart.

Starting capitalRMB 50M angel round led by Blue Lake Capital (June 2026), two months after a seed round led by Plug and Play China.

How it started

Yang Ruigang — Tsinghua CS alumnus, Columbia PhD, former Baidu Robotics and Autonomous Driving Laboratory director whose team built AADS, billed as a forerunner of modern world models, and ex-CTO of autonomous-trucking unicorn Inceptio — founded NeoWa Robotics in Shanghai in February 2026. After helping scale autonomous trucks commercially, he concluded the autonomous-driving data flywheel transfers to mobile robots, and that delivery's last 500 meters is where demand is rigid.

What happened

NeoWa frames itself as a brain company for embodied traversal intelligence, targeting campus, park and building delivery where AMRs still stumble on unmarked paths, elevators and social etiquette. Public demos show mapless cross-floor navigation, stable hollow-stair traversal and social behaviors such as letting elevator passengers exit before boarding. The team, drawing members from Baidu, Huawei and Inceptio, leans on 3D reconstruction and physics simulation to generate synthetic training data. It closed a seed round led by Plug and Play China in March 2026, then a RMB 50M angel round led by Blue Lake Capital with Butong Capital and Gongqingcheng Puyi Investment in June 2026, and says it has signed deep partnerships with logistics and cultural-tourism players, with real-world WTM validation planned for later in 2026.

No ending yet — it is still running.

Background

NeoWa Robotics (纽娲机器人) is a Shanghai embodied-AI startup founded in February 2026 by Yang Ruigang, former director of Baidu's Robotics and Autonomous Driving Laboratory and ex-CTO of autonomous-trucking unicorn Inceptio. It targets the last 500 meters of delivery — campuses, parks and buildings.

The bet is embodied traversal rather than generic humanoid intelligence. NeoWa's flagship World Traversal Model navigates without HD maps, plans paths out of the box, and ports the same policy across humanoid, quadruped, wheeled and delivery-vehicle bodies.

Public demos show mapless cross-floor navigation, hollow-stair traversal and narrow-corridor avoidance. The company argues the autonomous-driving data flywheel — collection, annotation, iteration — transfers to mobile robots, and uses 3D reconstruction and physics simulation to generate synthetic data for the parts that need rebuilding.

Funding moved fast: a seed round led by Plug and Play China in March 2026, then a RMB 50M angel round led by Blue Lake Capital in June 2026. NeoWa says it has signed deep partnerships with logistics and cultural-tourism players, with real-world validation of the model planned for later in 2026.

What has to be true

  • Autonomous trucking proved the collect-annotate-iterate flywheel, and Yang argues it transfers to mobile robots, giving the team a head start most robotics startups lack.
  • Last-500-meter delivery offers rigid demand as an entry wedge, unlike open-ended promises of general-purpose humanoids.
  • Framing NeoWa as a brain company lets one world model span wheeled, quadruped and humanoid bodies, a moat investors can see rather than another chassis.
  • Two rounds in four months reflect Chinese capital shifting toward vertical embodied AI over yet another generalist foundation-model bet.

What can be applied

A vertical beachhead beats a generalist platform: pick a space with rigid demand and unglamorous obstacles, then build the brain that owns it before chasing general robots.

Aftermath

As of September 5, 2026, NeoWa Robotics is pre-revenue and pre-launch per the cited sources: WTM validation in logistics, industrial parks and resort areas was slated for later in 2026, with deep partnerships signed but unnamed. The company had raised a Plug and Play China-led seed in March 2026 and a RMB 50M angel led by Blue Lake Capital in June 2026, all within four months of its February 2026 founding. No shipping date, named customer or later round appears in the two articles.
