Shotsy is a mobile app that helps people taking GLP-1 medications log injections, doses, side effects and weight trends, with a free core and premium upgrades; it deliberately stays independent of medication sellers and clinical providers.

That GLP-1 patients wanted a provider-independent treatment record, not a diet app: track doses, keep data portable, and grow through community trust, not ads.

A small pre-seed raised only after the app found traction (RevenueCat, 2025); FinStrat describes Shotsy as a venture-backed startup. Opened sources do not confirm a round amount.

Aja Beckett, then an iOS engineer at The New York Times, began GLP-1 treatment while living with obesity and found herself unsupported between doctor's appointments — no easy way to track injections, side effects and how they related to her progress. She built the app she needed as her seventh app experiment. Even before launch, traction appeared in spreadsheet threads, subreddit buzz and beta testers who signed up within minutes.

Shotsy's users did the marketing: screenshots of its colorful dose-and-weight charts spread through GLP-1 and Zepbound communities on Reddit and Facebook, and Beckett reinvested instead of buying ads. The app went from a nights-and-weekends side project to a venture-backed startup, crossing 1M+ downloads and 100,000+ paying subscribers by June 2026. By August 2026 GLP1 Digest put monthly active users near 350,000, with about one-third subscribing to premium, annual renewals described as very high, and the company cash-flow positive.

Still independent and scaling, with no exit. The company remains a standalone companion app rather than a medication or telehealth provider, betting that data portability and neutrality keep users loyal as they switch pharmacies or providers.

Beckett was her own first user, so the product solved a real, specific gap — tracking a GLP-1 treatment between appointments — instead of a generic weight-loss brief.

The communities came first: subreddit members were beta testers before launch and kept spreading the app by sharing screenshots, making customer acquisition nearly free.

Provider independence is a structural advantage: as patients switch telehealth vendors to find cheaper prices, a neutral treatment record grows more valuable, not less.

Capital efficiency followed the product: free core, premium as an option, no ad spend — which let a solo side project reach 1M downloads and then attract venture backing on its own terms.

Build for one real patient, then let the community distribute: a treatment record owned by the user, plus charts worth screenshotting, turned Reddit trust into a million downloads with no ad budget.

As of 2026-09-06 Shotsy remains an independent, scaling company. GLP1 Digest reported in August 2026 roughly 350,000 monthly active users, about a third subscribing to premium, two-thirds of new users arriving through community groups such as Reddit and Facebook, and a cash-flow-positive business. Founder Aja Beckett frames Shotsy as user advocacy — keeping health data usable if someone switches providers or medications — against larger platforms entering GLP-1 support. No funding amount beyond a post-traction pre-seed was confirmed in opened sources.
