Red Barn

Red Barn Robotics

Red Barn Robotics builds the autonomous weeding robot Field Hand, mechanically weeds between rows in vegetable fields (without herbicides), and sells seasonal contracts charged per acre (weeding-as-a-service) to large-scale vegetable growers.

About $500,000 pre-seed (March 2025, per Crunchbase)

起因

Founded in Seattle in 2023, TechCrunch said the founders include a former Apple hardware lead. The team saw that the United States spends $100 billion per year on weeding, weeds cost the U.S. economy $46 billion per year, and one in every five farm jobs cannot be filled, and decided to build “the Roomba of the field”: precise weeding between rows without touching crops.

经过

In March 2025, it participated in Demo Day as part of YC W25 (a batch of 160 companies), and TechCrunch listed it among “10 to watch”; at the time it claimed to be 15 times faster than humans and priced at one quarter of manual labor, and had signed about $5 million in letters of intent (LOIs) for the current season. The company actually raised only about $500,000 pre-seed; Startuply broke down its unit economics: manual weeding twice per season costs about $350/acre, the service quote is about $250/acre, and the robot's full cost must be pushed below $250 for the model to work.

结果

As of September 2026, the company is still operating (YC status Active, 5-person team): per-acre charging pilots have rolled out, but public sources show no formal deliveries or revenue figures; amid more cash-burning competitors such as Carbon Robotics, FarmWise, and Aigen, how long $500,000 of ammunition can last remains an open question.
