In 2023 Suchintan Singh, Kerem Yilmaz and Shuchang Zheng, then in YC's S23 batch, first built Wyvern, a browser-automation tool whose HN launch fell flat with 10 upvotes and never left the 'newest' filter. They rebuilt as Skyvern — an API that lets companies automate back-office browser work in natural language — and open-sourced it in March 2024.

In October the Skyvern Cloud launch repeated the trick, going 6K to 9K stars in four days and taking #1 on GitHub trending daily and weekly. Through 2025 the team added a Playwright-compatible SDK, the Planner/Actor/Validator architecture, and Web Bench, a benchmark of 5,750 tasks across the top 1,000 websites focused on complex write actions.

In Dec 2025 Skyvern announced a $2.7M seed to build 'Route Memorization': let the AI figure out a path once, compile it into a fast, cheap Playwright script, and wake the AI to heal the path when the site changes. The repo remains open source under AGPL-3.0 and reached ~23k stars by Aug 2026.
