Thrasio popularized e-commerce aggregation: it raised more than $3B in equity and debt to buy dozens of smaller consumer brands built on Amazon's marketplace and run them as one business. The pitch was that consolidating production, distribution and marketing would create data and scale advantages each independent seller lacked.
经过
The roll-up peaked in 2021, when co-founder Carlos Cashman announced $1B raised at a valuation of up to $10B and claimed $100M of profit on $500M of revenue in 2020. Then the funding market turned. From 2022 Thrasio laid off staff, exited markets, replaced its CEO with Greg Greeley and shelved IPO plans. By September 2023, secondary-market firm Forge Global estimated Thrasio's value at $193.9M — down from even its 2022 estimate of $4.5B.
结果
Chapter 11 in February 2024: Thrasio filed for bankruptcy protection with a lender agreement to erase about $495M of debt and $90M of emergency financing; it emerged from bankruptcy in June 2024 under new CEO Stephanie Fox.
