Roomix bets AI relevance search can beat Argentina's pay-to-rank property portals
Roomix bets relevance, not payments, ranks property listings; US$500K preseed from Vercel's Rauch and OpenAI/Meta board members after 250K monthly sessions.
Roomix
What the business is
AI-powered property search that indexes Argentina's major listing portals and ranks homes by relevance; brokerages pay US$30/advisor/month for a 24/7 WhatsApp assistant.
Starting capital:US$500,000 preseed closed Feb–Apr 2026; earlier US$45,000 micro-round led by Picante and angel Mariano Otero
How it started
In February 2024, Ignacio Gorriti (23) and Iñaki Valencia founded Roomix in Mar del Plata, starting with AI photo enhancement for property listings. Brokers told them the real lever was portal placement, not photos: 'Zonaprop won't rank me for that; what ranks me is that I pay.' After a call with Mariano Otero — the businessman who brought Uber to Argentina — Gorriti rebuilt the product as an AI search engine, and in September 2025 he met Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch at a Silicon Valley event and shouted 'You have to go to Mar del Plata, Guille.'
What happened
Gorriti followed up with an email titled 'Marplatenses en San Francisco'; Rauch replied the next day, found the search slow, and Gorriti cut latency from 5 seconds to 200 milliseconds, announcing the fix on X. In February 2026 Rauch confirmed his investment, and by April 2026 Roomix had closed a US$500,000 preseed with Adam D'Angelo (OpenAI board, Quora founder) and Charlie Songhurst (Meta board, ex-Microsoft), plus Auth0 co-founder Damián Schenkelman, Picante, and investors from Cocos Capital and Takenos. By April 2026 the platform logged 250,000 monthly sessions and 12,000 contacts, with brokerages paying US$30 per advisor per month.
How it ended up
Running and growing: 4th most-visited property site in Argentina as of April 2026, consolidating Argentina with Mexico and Spain eyed next; no revenue or valuation disclosed.
Background
Roomix is an Argentine AI property-search startup founded in February 2024 by Ignacio Gorriti and Iñaki Valencia in Mar del Plata. It began as a tool that enhanced property photos for less than US$0.01 per image where the market charged US$5, but brokers kept saying placement decided listings, not photo quality — so the founders rebuilt the product as a search engine that indexes properties from Zonaprop, Argenprop, Mercado Libre, Properati and regional portals, ranking them by relevance for each user.
The bet is that relevance beats payments in property search. Argentine portals charge brokers to appear higher, which Gorriti calls 'a toxic model' that turns ranking into a bidding war. Roomix instead gives consumers free, relevance-ranked search across every major portal and charges brokerages US$30 per advisor per month for a 24/7 WhatsApp assistant that finds properties, books visits and logs interactions.
Traction came fast: from zero visits ten months earlier, April 2026 brought 250,000 monthly sessions, 12,000 contacts between users and brokerages in a single month, more than 100,000 cumulative contacts and roughly 26% monthly growth, making Roomix Argentina's fourth most-visited property site. The US$500,000 preseed, closed between February and April 2026, was anchored by Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch — recruited after Gorriti cut search latency from 5 seconds to 200 milliseconds — with OpenAI board member Adam D'Angelo and Meta board member Charlie Songhurst also investing.
What has to be true
- Argentina's property portals sold placement, not relevance, leaving ranking quality up for grabs.
- Indexing competitors' listings lets Roomix launch with full inventory and zero listing-acquisition cost.
- A US$30-per-advisor monthly fee plus free consumer search gives both sides of the market a reason to switch.
- Rauch's own latency complaint drove a 25x fix, converting a celebrity investor into a lead preseed backer.
What can be applied
Pay-to-rank marketplaces leave a wedge for relevance-first search, and a founder who treats an investor's bug report as a spec (5s to 200ms) can turn a cold email into a round.
Aftermath
As of May 2026 Roomix is live and growing in Argentina, ranking as the country's fourth most-visited property site behind Zonaprop, Mercado Libre and Argenprop. The preseed is earmarked for a four-to-five-person team and marketing to consolidate Argentina before expanding to Mexico and Spain; platform infrastructure costs about US$1,000 per month. No revenue or ARR figures have been disclosed.
